Mystery Cup?

This beautiful mug was found in a pile of rubbish during the renovations of the Powerhouse Museum in Geelong Victoria. Jenny, who sent us the photo, said that it was severely tarnished and needed cleaning about 3 times to get it to this stage. If anyone knows the story behind the mug she would happily return it to its rightful owner.

The inscription reads - To Trevor from Ron, Seahorse Inn Boydtown.

Do you know Trevor or Ron?

What was the event that the mug commemorates?

Please contact the Access Centre on 64963970 if you have any information.

Information on Jack Ryan sought

My brother Jack Ryan was working on trawlers out of Eden sometime in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s. Jack lived at Evans Head on the Far North Coast until he recently passed away. I was talking to an old friend of his at his funeral who told me that Jack performed some heroic act during his time at Eden which locals say saved the whole fishing fleet of Eden. I have no knowledge of this event and would love to find out more. Please contact me by email, This email address is being protected from spambots. Les Ryan

Information about Robert Nicol Bell sought.
I am trying to find information on Robert Nicol Bell, who is my husband's great great uncle.  He died 14th Sept 1900 in Sydney, but  his death certificate stated that was "late of Eden NSW".  He previously lived in Victoria and the last known date I have of him there was recorded  on his wife's death cert - she died in the UK in 1896 - as 'of Geelong Victoria Australia'.  He was a sheep farmer and born in Scotland in 1837

Information sought about Edmund (Ted) Yabsley and the WW11 American Army Small Ships Section.

Charles Yabsley is seeking information about the fishing vessels and their crews that were commandeered by the American Army Small Ships Section during WW11. I would welcome any information that may reveal my fathers movements during his time in Eden. It is very difficult to access any information from anywhere regarding the Australian men and their boats, as both the Australian and American Armed Forces did not recognise their contribution to the war effort until only recently as they were employed on civilian contracts and so not too many records have been kept.

I am hoping that you may be able to tell me if there are any records in Eden that would list the fishing vessels and their crews that were commandeered by the American Army Small Ships section during WW11. My late father Edmund Harvey Yabsley(Ted) was working on a trawler out of Eden in 1942 when it was taken over by the American Army and sent to New Guinea. I need this information in order to request my fathers war service records from the American army. I have been advised that without this information they would be unable to find his records.

Regards

Charles Yabsley.

Information sought about John F. Minor, Master's Mate on CSS Shenandoah

Posted by James Gray 27 August 2010

I am an American living in Australia and I have uncovered information relating to John F. Minor's death; he was the Master's Mate of the CSS Shenandoah.

He was lost at sea off Montague Island in 1867 and his body was never recovered as far as I know.

As such I am trying to acquire any information available on John F. Minor's life in Eden and determine where he was born and when.

If you can assist me in this matter it would be most appreciated.

Respectfully,

James Gray
