Seniors Week at the Access Centre
01 Mar 2010 - 29 Mar 2010
Seniors Week at the Eden Access Centre
Seniors Week (21 - 28 March) is getting closer. The Access Centre will be hosting a variety of free events. All are aimed at the very beginner, and are a great chance to test the waters, have some fun, and gain some skills along the way. Those with more advanced computer knowledge will also be catered for.
The Broadband for Seniors kiosk, through which Seniors have free access to the internet, is accessible at all times. These also have a tutoring package that is very informative, easy to use and well worth working through. This is always available, not just during Seniors Week.
We have 3 sessions of ‘Games & Brain Teasers' involving a variety of computer based and online games including jigsaws, Sudoku, varieties of Solitaire & Mahjong, crosswords, chess, backgammon & dominoes, and many other games. These come in a variety of styles and an extensive range of ability levels. This is a great way to increase your skills in a relaxed and social atmosphere. These sessions will be held in the mornings of Wednesday 24.3.10 and Friday 26.3.10 from 10 am to 12 noon, and on Thursday 25.3.10 afternoon from 2pm to 4pm.
We also have two sessions of ‘Stories From My Past', involving talks by members of the local Genealogy Society, with time & assistance to use the internet to research your family tree
These will be on Tuesday 23.02.10 and Thursday 25.02.10 from 10am to 12 noon. You will be shown how to use the internet to search for your Family/Ancestors and how to set out this information in logical order to further assist your searching. If you are not familiar with computers, help is at hand. These sessions will cover information from Australia, United Kingdom and American records amongst others.
We have received a range of funding for these events. The Seniors Kiosks are from Broadband for Seniors which is part of the wider Australian Government initiative "Making Ends Meet - Plan for Older Australians, People with Disabilities and Carers". The games sessions are funded by a grant from the Community Technology Centres Association and "Stories from the Past" are funded by a grant from Bega Valley Shire Council and supported by members of the local Genealogy Society. We are very pleased to be able to pass these opportunities on to you.
We have air conditioning in our room now, thanks to a Jobs Fund grant acquired by Bega Valley Shire Council, and anticipate that our disabled entry ramp will also be ready to use. We do appreciate the efforts of all involved to have these facilities at the Centre.
All are welcome. There is no cost involved. No prior experience is necessary. We look forward to seeing you here. Please let us know you are coming by phoning 6496 3970 so we can reserve a place for you.
