The Hon. Fran Bailey Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence announced that the Commonwealth had successfully negotiated and registered a second Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) which will allow Defence to construct and operate a multi-purpose wharf and Naval munitions and storage facility.
The agreement is with the Twofold Bay Native Title Group over land and waters at Twofold Bay near Eden and was registered with the National Native Title Tribunal on 29 April.
“This $40 million project meets the Navy’s long-term logistic and ammunition requirements for its east-coast-based fleet. “The new Agreement is significant as the voluntary nature of the Agreement paves the way for collaborative relationships between the parties for the future management of the land and waters in this area.”
